In our first societies workshop hosted by Abbie, we explored the types of societies connected to a piece of writing and images we were given. Our given article was about “dazzle boats” used during the war. As a group, we brainstormed and devised several communities the article could be written for, written by, or appeal to outside of what we would expect. This was an interesting exercise as it got us thinking more creatively. For example, we decided that textile artists would be interested in the patterns displayed on the boats and that pirates would be interested due to the camouflaging abilities that would aid them in their work.

We were then split into pairs where we did a series of quick-fire notes of the societal groupings, systems, and associations connected to 3 different works.
